ܒܢܝ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܬܚܛܘܢ ܘܐܢ ܐܢܫ ܢܚܛܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܢ ܦܪܩܠܛܐ ܠܘܬ ܐܒܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܙܕܝܩܐ
zdyq' mshykh' yshwe 'b' lwth prqlT' ln 'yth nkhT' 'nsh w'n thkhTwn dl' lkwn 'n' kthb hlyn bny
My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.

ܗܘܝܘ ܓܝܪ ܚܘܣܝܐ ܕܥܠ ܐܦܝ ܚܛܗܝܢ ܘܠܘ ܚܠܦܝܢ ܕܝܠܢ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܐܠܐ ܐܦ ܚܠܦ ܟܠܗ ܥܠܡܐ
elm' klh khlp 'p 'l' blkhwd dyln khlpyn wlw khThyn 'py del khwsy' gyr hwyw
And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

ܘܒܗܕܐ ܡܪܓܫܝܢܢ ܕܝܕܥܢܝܗܝ ܐܢ ܢܛܪܝܢܢ ܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ
pwqdnwhy nTrynn 'n dydenyhy mrgshynn wbhd'
This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.

ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܝܕܥܬܗ ܘܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ ܠܐ ܢܛܪ ܕܓܠܐ ܗܘ ܘܫܪܪܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ
bh lyth wshrr' hw dgl' nTr l' wpwqdnwhy dydethh d'mr gyr hw
One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܢܛܪ ܡܠܬܗ ܒܗܢܐ ܡܫܠܡ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܗܕܐ ܓܝܪ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܒܗ ܚܢܢ
khnn dbh ydeynn gyr bhd' d'lh' khwbh shryr'yth mshlm bhn' mlthh dnTr dyn hw
But whoever keeps his word, God’s love has most certainly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him:

ܗܘ ܕܐܡܪ ܕܒܗ ܐܝܬܝ ܘܠܐ ܠܗ ܕܐܝܟ ܗܠܟܬܗ ܕܝܠܗ ܢܗܠܟ

he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.

ܚܒܝܒܝ ܠܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܚܕܬܐ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܥܬܝܩܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܒܪܫܝܬ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܥܬܝܩܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܠܬܐ ܗܝ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ
dshmethwn hy mlth' 'ythwhy ethyq' dyn pwqdn' brshyth mn lkwn hw' d'yth hw ethyq' pwqdn' 'l' lkwn 'n' kthb khdth' pwqdn' lw khbyby
Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

ܬܘܒ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܚܕܬܐ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܫܪܝܪܐ ܒܗ ܘܒܟܘܢ ܕܚܫܘܟܐ ܥܒܪ ܠܗ ܘܢܘܗܪܐ ܫܪܝܪܐ ܫܪܝ ܡܬܚܙܐ
mthkhz' shry shryr' wnwhr' lh ebr dkhshwk' wbkwn bh shryr' d'ythwhy hw lkwn 'n' kthb khdth' pwqdn' thwb
Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.

ܡܢ ܕܐܡܪ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܒܢܘܗܪܐ ܘܣܢܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܚܫܘܟܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ
lhsh' edm' 'ythwhy bkhshwk' l'khwhy wsn' bnwhr' d'ythwhy hkyl d'mr mn
He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܚܒ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܢܘܗܪܐ ܡܟܬܪ ܘܟܫܠܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ
bh lyth wkshl' mkthr bnwhr' l'khwhy dmkhb dyn hw
He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.

ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܣܢܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܒܚܫܘܟܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܘܒܚܫܘܟܐ ܡܗܠܟ ܘܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܠܐܝܟܐ ܐܙܠ ܡܛܠ ܕܚܫܘܟܐ ܣܡܝ ܐܢܝܢ ܥܝܢܘܗܝ
eynwhy 'nyn smy dkhshwk' mTl 'zl l'yk' yde wl' mhlk wbkhshwk' 'ythwhy bkhshwk' l'khwhy dsn' dyn hw
But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܢܝܐ ܕܐܫܬܒܩܘ ܠܟܘܢ ܚܛܗܝܟܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܫܡܗ
shmh mTl khThykwn lkwn d'shthbqw bny' lkwn 'n' kthb
I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܐܒܗܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܠܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܒܪܫܝܬ ܟܬܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܕܙܟܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܠܒܝܫܐ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܛܠܝܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܘܢ ܠܐܒܐ
l'b' dydethwn Tly' lkwn kthbth lbysh' dzkythwnyhy elym' lkwn 'n' kthb brshyth mn hw' d'ythwhy lhw dydethwnyhy 'bh' lkwn 'n' kthb
I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.

ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܐܒܗܐ ܕܝܕܥܬܘܢ ܠܗܘ ܕܡܢ ܒܪܫܝܬ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܕܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܡܠܬܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܫܪܝܐ ܒܟܘܢ ܘܙܟܝܬܘܢܝܗܝ ܠܒܝܫܐ
lbysh' wzkythwnyhy bkwn shry' d'lh' wmlthh 'nthwn dkhylthn' elym' lkwn kthbth brshyth dmn lhw dydethwn 'bh' lkwn kthbth
I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

ܠܐ ܬܪܚܡܘܢ ܠܥܠܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܠܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܡܢ ܓܝܪ ܕܪܚܡ ܠܥܠܡܐ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܒܐ ܠܝܬ ܒܗ
bh lyth d'b' khwbh lelm' drkhm gyr mn bh d'yth lmdm wl' lelm' thrkhmwn l'
Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.

ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܓܝܪ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܒܥܠܡܐ ܪܓܬܐ ܗܘ ܕܦܓܪܐ ܘܪܓܬܐ ܕܥܝܢܐ ܘܫܘܒܗܪܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܕܠܐ ܗܘܝ ܡܢ ܐܒܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܢܗ ܐܢܝܢ ܡܢ ܥܠܡܐ
elm' mn 'nyn mnh 'l' 'b' mn hwy dl' hlyn delm' wshwbhr' deyn' wrgth' dpgr' hw rgth' belm' bh d'yth gyr mdm kl
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.

ܘܥܒܪ ܥܠܡܐ ܗܘ ܘܪܓܬܗ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܕܥܒܕ ܨܒܝܢܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܩܘܐ ܠܥܠܡ
lelm mqw' d'lh' tsbynh debd dyn hw wrgthh hw elm' webr
The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.

ܒܢܝ ܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܚܪܝܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܡܕܡ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܕܐܬܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܘܗܫܐ ܗܘܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܘܡܢ ܗܕܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܙܒܢܐ ܗܘ ܐܚܪܝܐ
'khry' hw dzbn' ydeynn hd' wmn dgl' mshykh' sgy'' lhwn hww whsh' dgl' mshykh' d'th' dshmethwn mdm w'yk 'khry' hw zbn' bny
Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.

ܡܢܢ ܢܦܩܘ ܐܠܐ ܠܘ ܡܢܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܘ ܓܝܪ ܡܢܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܘܬܢ ܡܟܬܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܐ ܢܦܩܘ ܡܢܢ ܕܬܬܝܕܥ ܕܠܘ ܡܢܢ ܗܘܘ
hww mnn dlw dththyde mnn npqw 'l' hww mkthryn lwthn hww mnn gyr 'lw hww mnn lw 'l' npqw mnn
They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.

ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܫܝܚܘܬܐ ܐܝܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܫܐ ܘܦܪܫܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܗܘ ܠܟܠ ܐܢܫ
'nsh lkl hw 'nthwn wprshyn qdysh' mn lkwn 'yth mshykhwth' w'nthwn
You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.

ܠܐ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ ܠܫܪܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܗ ܘܕܟܠܗ ܕܓܠܘܬܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܬ ܡܢܗ ܡܢ ܫܪܪܐ
shrr' mn mnh hwth l' dglwth' wdklh lh 'nthwn dydeyn 'l' lshrr' lh 'nthwn ydeyn dl' lkwn kthbth l'
I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

ܡܢܘ ܕܓܠܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܟܦܪ ܕܝܫܘܥ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܗܢܐ ܗܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܓܠܐ ܗܘ ܕܟܦܪ ܒܐܒܐ ܟܦܪ ܐܦ ܒܒܪܐ
bbr' 'p kpr b'b' dkpr hw dgl' mshykh' hw hn' mshykh' hw' l' dyshwe dkpr 'yn' 'n 'l' dgl' mnw
Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

ܘܗܘ ܕܟܦܪ ܒܒܪܐ ܐܦܠܐ ܒܐܒܐ ܡܗܝܡܢ ܡܢ ܕܡܘܕܐ ܒܒܪܐ ܐܦ ܒܐܒܐ ܡܘܕܐ
mwd' b'b' 'p bbr' dmwd' mn mhymn b'b' 'pl' bbr' dkpr whw
Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.

ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܢܩܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܐܢ ܓܝܪ ܡܩܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܡܩܘܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܐܒܐ ܘܒܒܪܐ
wbbr' b'b' 'nthwn mqwyn 'nthwn 'p qdym mn dshmethwn mdm lwthkwn mqw' gyr 'n lwthkwn nqw' qdym mn dshmethwn mdm w'nthwn
Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.

ܘܗܢܘ ܫܘܘܕܝܐ ܕܐܫܬܘܕܝ ܠܢ ܚܝܐ ܕܠܥܠܡ
dlelm khy' ln d'shthwdy shwwdy' whnw
This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.

ܗܠܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܛܥܝܢ ܠܟܘܢ
lkwn dmTeyn 'ylyn mTl lkwn kthbth dyn hlyn
These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.

ܘܐܦ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܐܢ ܬܩܘܐ ܠܘܬܟܘܢ ܡܫܝܚܘܬܐ ܕܩܒܠܬܘܢ ܡܢܗ ܠܐ ܣܢܝܩܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܐܢܫ ܢܠܦܟܘܢ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܫܝܚܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܬܝܗ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܗܝ ܡܠܦܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠ ܟܠܡܕܡ ܘܫܪܝܪܐ ܗܝ ܘܠܝܬ ܒܗ ܕܓܠܘܬܐ ܘܐܝܟ ܕܐܠܦܟܘܢ ܩܘܘ ܒܗ
bh qww d'lpkwn w'yk dglwth' bh wlyth hy wshryr' klmdm el lkwn mlp' hy 'lh' mn d'ythyh mshykhwth' 'yk 'l' nlpkwn d'nsh 'nthwn snyqyn l' mnh dqblthwn mshykhwth' lwthkwn thqw' 'n 'nthwn w'p
As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.

ܘܗܫܐ ܒܢܝ ܩܘܘ ܒܗ ܕܡܐ ܕܡܬܓܠܐ ܠܐ ܢܒܗܬ ܡܢܗ ܐܠܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܠܢ ܓܠܝܘܬ ܐܦܐ ܒܡܐܬܝܬܗ
bm'thythh 'p' glywth ln thhw' 'l' mnh nbhth l' dmthgl' dm' bh qww bny whsh'
Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
